The most important rules are the side of the building the door is on, and making sure you construct a room from the "Feeding" element of the centerpiece furniture. Yeah ACS Feng Sui is quite a bit more simplified than that. Doesn't help that you practically need a mod to see that, as the visual indicator for Qi is only updated when you load the game. Yet there are a lot of more obscure mechanics in the game that are not as easy to figure out - for example I have never managed to figure out what affects the total amount of Qi available on the map (apart from events), and if there are specific actions I can take to raise it, or actions that lower it that I should avoid. So after a year and some notes you can set up a reliable food industry. Now this is one of the easier systems, which can be relatively easy figured out, by checking growth over a day and extrapolating that, and checking how much food the plants yield. Luckily it doesn't matter too much, as you can simply send an inner on a repeating adventure to a nearby location if food starts running out. Yet the crops you can grow don't tell you how long they take to grow or how much food they'll yield. Outers eat 3 times a day, so you need three meals for each. In ACS, to my memory, you get very little comparable information. Yet there are still many different strategies that revolve around food production, be it people micromanaging nutrient meals, fine meal production, ranching to provide meat for better meals, and more. Thus it's relatively straightforward to create a basic food industry that will keep your colony fed throughout the year. You can easily figure out how much food each pawn needs per day, how much food the different crops yield and how long they take to grow, and how many days a year you can grow your food. Take for example RimWorld, which is pretty open with its rules - pretty much every stat is explained in the detail views. Just make the rules about how the game operates clear, then everyone can develop their own strategies. You don't have to spoon-feed people strategies.
